Abstract
The pediatric glaucomas are infrequently encountered in the primary care setting. The recognition of this diverse group of disorders is enhanced by identification of characteristic symptoms and signs, an associated systemic or ocular syndrome, family history, or active or past intraocular disease. Prompt recognition and referral to a pediatric ophthalmologist for confirmation can have profound implications over an entire lifetime. The child may then be referred to a pediatric ophthalmologist experienced in the surgical treatment of the pediatric glaucomas for treatment.
