Abstract

The oral cavity is the primary entry point for exogenous substances into the body and home to the specialized tissues that help us chew, taste, speak, and express ourselves. Lesions that occur in the soft tissues of the mouth may be caused by traumatic injury, antigenic or carcinogenic exposures, odontogenic infections, or manifestations of systemic diseases. In this chapter, we will address lesions arising from these different etiologies with attention to the systemic implications of intraoral findings.
