Abstract
Not many decades ago the prevalent view was that attempts to teach skills of court advocacy would be of little value – facility in the art being mainly considered innate. However systematic instruction on the subject has become a major influence on advocacy, particularly that of junior practitioners. This chapter traces the origins of advocacy teaching in England and Wales and outlines the content of the current courses.
