Abstract

Central nervous system fungal infections are common but diagnosis is usually delayed. Advancement in research is leading to new diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Though microscopy and serology are time-tested investigations, advances in polymerase chain reaction techniques will greatly reduce the diagnostic time and specificity. Proteomic profiling and radiological advancement will further ease the diagnostics. Newer innovation in treatment is likely with many agents being tested in phase 1 and phase 2 trials.
