Abstract
A petite and spirited young woman from a small town in Ohio becomes a hero and a medical milestone. Every procedure, historic or otherwise, is burdened by paperwork. The last hurdle is cleared and the procedure begins at 5:30 pm on December 9, a Tuesday. It would finish 22 hours later. Today, she can smile and does so frequently.
