Abstract

We have previously seen how the theory of Vassilev invariants reduces to the theory of chord diagrams. In this chapter we describe the vector space of Jacobi diagrams and show that it is isomorphic to the vector space of chord diagrams. This new space allows access to richer algebraic and combinatorial structures.
