Abstract
Shows it was among the Directors and Heads of Section that Drummond found the League’s brightest stars. Pen-portraits of the first cadre of Drummond’s senior staff include those on Arthur Salter, the Briton who led the Economic and Finance Section; Frenchman Paul Mantoux who had been chief interpreter at the Paris Peace Conference and who was then given charge of the League’s Political Section; the Polish physician Ludwik Rajchman who headed the Health Organisation’s Secretariat; Erik Colban the Norwegian responsible for the Minorities Section; the Swiss William Rappard who directed the Mandates Section, and the Spanish scholar Salvador de Madariaga, who led the Disarmament Section.
