Abstract
The diagnosis of personality disorders in persons with intellectual disability (ID) is still controversial. Adaptations of current personality disorder criteria allow the diagnosis of individuals with ID. Caution should be taken to be mindful of the culture of intellectual disability as well as the behavior and thinking patterns that are considered appropriate. Additionally, the diagnosis of some personality disorders is not recommended in individuals with co-occurring ID. Consideration of diagnosis and common difficulties are discussed in this chapter.
