Abstract

Some commentators attach high significance to the globalisation’s growing influence on national housing outcomes. The major impacts of globalisation on housing in the UK have been via securitisation that had a significant impact on the ‘credit crunch’ and through real estate speculation, especially in London. Devolution is beginning to make an impact on housing conditions in Scotland and, to a lesser extent in Wales and Northern Ireland. There are marked variations in housing outcomes according to regional, district and neighbourhood that area-based housing policies have attempted to tackle.
