Abstract
This chapter focuses on two schools that illustrate some of the difficulties encountered by Muslim schools to get a contract with the State. One of the goals of Réussite, the first private junior high Muslim school was to fight school failure in the department of Seine-St-Denis, notorious for its failed housing policies that have created ghettos. Réussite submitted all paperwork to the State and underwent an inspection in June 2006. Despite impressive results at national exams in 2008, the school waited for an answer from the state for many years, only to have its request denied in 2014. In the meantime, debts accumulated and the school had to close in 2017. IFSQY/Samarcande was denied its first request for a contract for lack of funding.
