Abstract

Taking typical locomotive models as examples, this article briefly describes the development history of steam locomotives in China from assembling and patterning to designing and manufacturing of their own from 1881 to 2000. It demonstrates the development of design, manufacture, and utilization of different models of steam locomotives in China, including the Pacific Series, Mikado Series, “Jiefang”, “Jianshe”, “Shengli”, “Renmin”, “Heping”, and “Qianjin”. Therefore, it provides an objective summary of the design and manufacturing process of steam locomotives in China.
