Abstract
The major conflicts in the Middle East have led to an unprecedented migratory influx to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, with Greece receiving 90% of the total refugee population during the last two years. Since March 2016, the final closure of the Western Balkans transit route followed by the EU–Turkey Agreement has changed Greece from a transit country to a country hosting tens of thousands of third-country nationals for a still undefined, yet long-term, period. Greece progressed from the logic of repression to the logic of reception, respecting the human rights to access good-quality healthcare services and to dignity, through legislative initiatives and an ongoing effort to develop a comprehensive response to migrants’ and refugees’ health and psychosocial needs.

Notes
- 1.
The expected proportional morbidity is calculated using a quasi-Poisson regression model (Farrington et al. 1996). Long-term trends are incorporated into the model using natural cubic splines (with knots every 4 weeks), rejecting outlier values (Z-score >3) and—if considered necessary—values corresponding to a confirmed outbreak.
