Abstract
This book is dedicated to the development and use of the bag-in-the-lens intraocular implant. In this introductory chapter, we consider the history of cataract surgery as well as the lens’ arduous development process. We describe the inspiration behind the lens, the challenges in changing established perceptions, and the mentors and colleagues that helped the lens come into being.
