Abstract

Most researchers do not really know what to write in the legends for their tables or figures. Often they write nearly nothing. Sometimes they repeat the corresponding part of the methods. Sometimes they comment on the meaning of the results. All these approaches are wrong and should be avoided. Instead, the legends should clearly explain how to decipher the information in the table or figure.
