Abstract

Khairy Alzahaby, a staunch Damascene novelist who graduated from Cairo University, wrote a saga about a revolutionary family in three generations. Gamal el-Ghitani, an Egyptian novelist who published his breakthrough novel in Damascus, related historical events with a political projection on the contemporary. Halim Barakat, a Syrian/American novelist, dedicated his novels to the theme of alienation and the question of identity after the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
