Abstract
Short-term and long-term behavior of axially compressed RC column is presented in this paper. Rheology of concrete is studied on a typical symmetrically reinforced cross-section. Reliable assessment of creep and shrinkage deformations is essential in verification of serviceability limit state. Initial stress distribution characterized by higher concrete stress evolves over time and results with stress relief in concrete and significant increment of compression in reinforcement. Different analysis procedures which pertain to effective modulus method, rate-of-creep method, age adjusted effective modulus method and step-by-step method were critically compared. Age adjusted effective modulus method was found to be the optimal choice regarding practical implementation and precision.
