GNSS Reference Network - Accuracy Under Different Parameters Variation

Abstract

Global Navigation Satellite Systems-GNSS, such as, American GPS, European Galileo, Russian GLONASS or Chinese BeiDou, allow 3D coordinates of the geodetic reference networks to be determined in Global Geodetic Reference System, with an accuracy and economic efficiency that could not be imagined a half of century ago. However, the accuracy of GNSS positioning is affected by a very large number of errors, to mention only some: satellites orbit errors, satellite and receiver’s clock errors, satellite and receiver antenna’ errors, poor geometry distribution of the satellite, the influence of propagation media, the environment of the observing station, interference with other radio signals, etc.

In order to obtain high accuracy of the coordinates in a geodetic network, it is necessary to pay particular attention to the selection of appropriate equipment, techniques and procedures for data collection, as well as the location of observing reference sites. Nothing less important is to choose data processing methods. Applying carefully selected strategy for data processing, a large number of errors can be eliminated or significantly reduced. This paper discusses the impact of various parameters on the accuracy of the reference network of Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as: the accuracy of the applied global reference frame, the effects of the individual reference stations selected as datum stations, period of time and number of observation sessions, the accuracy of satellite orbit, the impact of ionospheric and tropospheric refraction, etc.
