Abstract

Under van Boven’s tenure and leadership, one of the great chapters in the UN’s capacity to serve the most marginalized parts of humanity materialised through his policies and initiatives that led to the development of mechanisms and procedures for the inclusion of indigenous peoples in the international system of nation-states. He served valiantly to improve also the economic, social and political conditions of minorities, women and other marginalized groups.
