Abstract

The Surveyor spacecraft was a pioneering lunar lander and a pathfinder for the manned Apollo lunar landers that followed. A photograph of an engineering test model of the spacecraft is shown below. The model rests on the beach near the Hughes Aircraft Factory in Los Angeles. Surveyor was developed and built by Hughes (Fig. 4.1).
