Abstract

Upon arriving at Balgrist, and assuming his role as chief resident, Müller was eager to share the Osteosynthesis experience he had gained in Fribourg over the prior 2 years. His first lecture there was held in Winterthur for the hospital surgeons and residents. A second lecture was given at the Balgrist Clinic, with Müller inviting a number of chief residents from regional hospitals, including the chief resident for general surgery at the Zurich University Hospital. Müller shared his experience about visiting Danis, passed around his book, and talked about his surgical experiences prior to joining Balgrist. In his words, he showed them “fantastic cases” to demonstrate the then new concept of absolute stability with compression, combined with early mobility of the affected limbs. Müller was astounded to find his audience unimpressed. Worse, even those who he could motivate to visit Danis in person came away with a kind of “we found nothing to learn” reaction.
