Abstract

This book has covered diverse aspects related to ecotourism and environmental education, among them, the role of education in biodiversity conservation. Over the last 25 years, nations around the world have recognised the importance of preserving different animal and plant species. The United Nations Organization has established biodiversity conservation as one of its major goals for the next decades, and has emphasised the importance of education in accomplishing this goal, by focusing on education for sustainable development, increasing public awareness, and training the Indigenous populations to monitor and manage natural resources. Examples from different parts of the world have shown how the goal is being accomplished.
