Abstract
A Salter-Harris 3 fracture through the lateral aspect of the distal tibial epiphysis is known as a Tillaux fracture (after the French surgeon and anatomist). In these injuries which occur in older children and adolescents, the medial aspect of the distal tibial epiphysis has fused and is not involved. This fracture is associated with an avulsion of the anterior tibiofibular ligament following an abduction-external rotation mechanism of injury.
