Abstract
The piled raft foundation is generally a recommended choice of foundation for the building founded in a weak strata. To analyze the system in an accurate manner, it is needed to incorporate the interaction effect at the soil foundation interface. The direct method of interaction analysis facilitates to model the foundation system and the superstructure at integrated manner and thus models the system in a more realistic facet. In this study, the attempt is made to investigate the performance of isolated footing associated with rigid piles as a choice of foundation for mid rise building with a weak local soil condition. The interaction effect is modeled and the integrated model of the superstructure and foundation system is analyzed against static forces. The performance of the rigid piled isolated footing is compared in terms of system displacement and stresses generated with the piled raft (separately) foundation for same superstructure and different soil conditions. The proposed foundation type is found to be commensurate and economical with the set of limitations.
