Abstract

Cyber-safety awareness projects are active in rural and township schools and communities, but people (adults and children) are still not cyber safe. Information technology (IT) practitioners in academia and industry are active in creating cyber safety awareness programmes among children in schools and among eager and available adults. The interesting questions currently being asked are, what trends are these programmes following and should new trends be added to existing programmes to make awareness more effective. The purpose of this research is to explore possible new trends in creating awareness among cyber users. A group of conference attendees from different research fields was asked to share their current cyber-safety awareness programme trends and any possible new trends that may better the general results of cyber-safety awareness programmes. The conclusion is made that the responsibility of educating cyber-security awareness rests on the shoulders of a wide group of people, including government. This education effort should be done in a collaborative and holistic manner.
