Book cover Next Generation and Advanced Network Reliability Analysis

Part of the book series: Signals and Communication Technology ((SCT))

Abstract

This chapter will introduce the reader to the essentials necessary for understanding the architectures and protocols involved in processing of telephony services over NGN network and cover reliability analysis techniques required in making this service more reliable. Previous chapters in this book covered details of IP services needed for voice and data transmission in a packetized mode. It is assumed that the reader by now is familiar with the basics of both circuit and packet switching. This chapter will cover those aspects of VoIP that can impact reliability and integrity of VoIP network.

References are provided at the end of this chapter for a reader to gain a broader knowledge on packetized and circuit-switched technologies that are currently employed in modern telephone systems.
