Abstract

Canadian participation in the JSF program has included initial support for it during the Chretien, Martin, and Harper Governments and a partial pulling back from it during the Trudeau Government. Ottawa remains intent on finding a replacement for its aging CF-18 jet fighter fleet and the JSF still remains a possible solution to its military requirements despite cost problems causing Trudeau’s Government to pull back from participation. Many Canadian aerospace companies have been involved in this project; Canadian involvement in the JSF has been the subject of contentious debate and voluminous analysis; and Canada faces the need to defend its Arctic airspace from Russian incursions.
