Abstract

Delirium is a major public health problem in pediatric critical care. The immunocompromised hematology/oncology patient is at specific risk for developing this serious complication. In this chapter, we provide information that will enable the pediatric hematologist/oncologist and/or intensivist to recognize delirium and implement effective interventions to shorten delirium duration. With knowledge of associated risk factors for delirium, the clinician can modify his/her approach to these high-risk children and decrease the risk of delirium development.
