Abstract

Agricultural production has been never considered in a sustainable manner using mathematical modelling. Meeting the demand for food and nutrient security for the people living in an area is very important for researchers in the present context and climate change conditions. An increase in the population of 1.2% per annum has forced farmers to grow more using the latest techniques without considering soil health and sustainable crop production. Crop rotation, a common practice for sustainable crop production, is currently insufficient to make agricultural production sustainable. The right crop for a predetermined area according to the social and environmental requirement helps to address sustainability issues to a large extent. This complex problem can be resolved using appropriate mathematical tools like MCDM (Multiple Criteria Decision-Making), which has been formulated to address the requirements of the people. Suitable boundary conditions are used to simulate optimal production, keeping natural reserves intact for twenty-five crops, and taking into account five priorities in Odisha during the rabi season.
