Abstract
Since independence, India has been implementing several government schemes to target poverty alleviation among the marginalised communities. However, the impact of these programmes has been limited and could not address the requirement of the communities completely. The planning and design of the schemes are more challenging due to the context and need of the diversified communities. Lack of flexibility and convergence while implementing the scheme adversely influences the effectiveness of the scheme. Any efforts by practitioners/duty-bearers to bring convergence and flexibility yield better results with regard to sustaining the communities. A case study from the tribal district of Nabarangpur may help in understanding the complexities involved in a real-life situation and how synergy can leverage the strength of each scheme.
