The first step in applying a fuzzy rulebase system in the context of spatial data is determining the definition of the variables and linguistic terms In order to use a fuzzy rulebase system for processing spatial data, a number of modifications were necessary. In this chapter, definitions of the parameters that are calculated to determine the variables in the rules are introduced. In addition, appropriate definitions for the possible ranges are also introduced, along with new concepts for most possible ranges that vary with each data pair. This allows for a more optimal posssible range but it will require a modification to the algorithm for construction a rulebase from examples which will be explained in the next chapter. It will also impact the application of the rulebase, where the domains are also not a priori known.
