Abstract
The provision of supplementary tissue becomes necessary when the local integuments are of defective laxity (wide mastectomy with major skin sacrifice), or are insubstantial, or exhibit obvious trophic changes following a poorly tolerated combination of surgery and radiotherapy which has left sclerosed or fragile tissues, incapable of stretching or exposed to the risk of necrosis and disruption when they are placed under tension by the insertion of an implant, which may then be extruded
