Abstract

Incisional hernias are protrusions of the abdominal viscera through areas of the abdominal wall where musculoaponeurotic continuity is lacking due to a trauma, specially postoperative (1). Some synonymous terms of incisional hernias are postoperative hernia or post-laparotomy hernia. It should not be confused with the terms like “laparocele” or diastasis, which define other types of abdominal wall defects.
