Résumé
La chirurgie de la douleur a contribué au développement de la neurochirurgie fonctionnelle qui s’est développée parallèlement à la neurophysiologie. Dans la chirurgie de la douleur, on peut distinguer les interventions reposant sur une lésion anatomique visant à interrompre anatomiquement les voies nerveuses de celles, généralement conservatrices, faisant appel à la neuromodulation — par stimulations électriques ou par administration locale de molécule(s) — de structures anatomiques. Ces deux familles de techniques répondant à des cheminements d’idées distincts, nous les avons traitées séparément 1. Pour cette même raison d’ordre épistémologique, l’histoire du traitement chirurgical de la névralgie faciale a fait l’objet, également, d’un chapitre distinct2.
