Abstract

T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (FLAIR) sequences suppress the free water signal, such as that of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), giving a markedly hypointense signal. However, the signal of oedema containing bound water is not suppressed and gives a hyperintense signal.
