Résumé
Deux études épidémiologiques indépendantes sur les traumatismes pelviens aux États-Unis [1] et en Suède [2] ont montré qu’environ 50 % de ces fractures surviennent chez des individus de plus de 60 ans. Le pic d’incidence dans ces deux séries était de 40 ans pour les traumatismes sévères (accidents de la voie publique) et de 70 ans pour les traumatismes modérés (chute de sa hauteur). Par ailleurs, dans la tranche d’âge supérieure à 85 ans, les femmes étaient deux fois plus nombreuses que les hommes et l’incidence des fractures pelviennes était 12 fois supérieure à l’incidence tous âges confondus. Une autre étude épidémiologique finlandaise [3] a objectivé qu’une chute était la cause d’un traumatisme pelvien dans 83 % des cas.
