Environ 700 espèces spontanées, dans les régions tempérées et chaudes, constituent la famille des Rutacées. Le genre Ruta33 englobe une soixantaine d’espèces dont certaines se trouvent sur le pourtour méditerranéen: Ruta angustifolia Pers.; Ruta chalepensis L.; Ruta montana L.
