Connue dès l’ère des pharaons égyptiens, rassemblant l’ensemble des manifestations cliniques des hémorroïdes, la maladie hémorroïdaire est une affection banale par sa fréquence mais pourtant chargée de croyances séculaires voire d’histoire (Napoléon aurait-il gagné la bataille de Waterloo s’il n’avait pas été victime d’une crise hémorroïdaire?). La plainte proctologique représente 20 % des motifs de consultation de gastroentérologie libérale et une fois sur deux les hémorroïdes sont en cause.
