Résumé
L’étude de la cooccurrence de deux maladies fréquentes comme la dépression et la douleur chronique, ainsi que des liens qui les caractérisent, représente un défi en soi. Plusieurs chapitres de ce livre mettent en évidence les connaissances existantes des liens entre ces deux problèmes de santé, aux niveaux fondamental et clinique, mais qu’en estil du point de vue épidémiologique ? On doit d’emblée préciser qu’il n’existe pas d’indicateur valide permettant de mesurer avec précision cette cooccurrence dans des banques de données populationnelles. Il peut ainsi être difficile de répondre à des questions d’ordre épidémiologique telles que : peut-on identifier les individus les plus susceptibles de présenter une cooccurrence de ces deux problèmes de santé ? Dans quelles situations la douleur précède-t-elle la dépression et vice versa ? En effet, très peu d’études nous permettent de répondre directement à ces questions. Après une recension des écrits, nous présenterons les résultats d’une analyse secondaire d’une enquête de santé canadienne qui dressera le portrait de la situation au Canada et identifiera les facteurs de risque de la cooccurrence de la douleur chronique et de la dépression. Enfin, une analyse secondaire de données administratives longitudinales complètera ce tableau et explorera la dynamique temporelle existante entre ces deux entités cliniques.
