Léintoxication aiguë par l’éthanol est l’une des plus fréquentes intoxications. À l’inverse, les intoxications par les glycols et alcools toxiques sont rares mais potentiellement graves. Les intoxications par éthylène glycol (EG) et méthanol sont les plus fréquentes d’entre elles. Le clinicien est souvent décontenancé car ces intoxications se caractérisent par un intervalle libre de plusieurs heures entre l’ingestion et l’apparition des symptômes. La toxicité est en fait liée aux métabolites des molécules ingérées. Les inhibiteurs de l’alcool deshydrogénase (fomépizole voire éthanol) prescrits à la phase précoce pauci-symptomatique de l’intoxication permettent d’obtenir une guérison sans séquelles.
