La NGAL: Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin

Résumé

La Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) aussi appelée sidérocaline ou lipocaline 2 est une glycoprotéine de 25 kilodaltons (kDa) appartenant à la superfamille des lipocalines, capables de fixer des molécules hydrophobes diverses mais aussi le fer. Initialement identifiée par Triebel en 1992 dans le surnageant de polynucléaires activés, la NGAL a ensuite été mise en évidence dans de nombreux tissus et plus particulièrement dans les cellules tubulaires proximales du rein. L’une de ses fonctions biologiques les plus importantes semble être l’inhibition de la croissance bactérienne. Cette protéine est aussi fortement impliquée dans le développement du rein in utero mais aussi dans son fonctionnement à l’état adulte.
