Résumé

La prise en charge des sujets âgés (≥ 65 ans) doit tenir compte de deux facteurs: la physiologie du sujet âgé est différente de celle du sujet jeune (notion de vieillissement); le sujet âgé est un sujet souffrant généralement d’une ou plusieurs pathologies chroniques (comorbidités). L’intrication de ces deux facteurs aboutit à une diminution des réserves fonctionnelles. Cette diminution des réserves fonctionnelles et donc des capacités d’adaptation est le plus souvent compensée (latente), mais elle deviant patente lors d’efforts, de stress ou de maladies aiguës: c’est la classique notion de fragilité des sujets âgés [1].
