Dans une société où le progrès, « pas collectif du genre humain » selon Victor Hugo, est ressenti comme la première cause du bien-être de ses membres, poser en 2011 cette question peut paraître incongru. Comment une patiente atteinte d’un cancer du sein pourrait-elle être victime de ce que nous mettons en oeuvre pour lui apporter les meilleures chances de guérison avec un souci d’efficacité maximale?
