Résumé

L’obésité, en constante augmentation dans le monde occidental et y compris en France, entraîne de nombreuses complications, responsables d’une réduction de l’espérance de vie. Les traitements conventionnels sont souvent décevants, et c’est dans ce contexte que la chirurgie de l’obésité (dite bariatrique) s’est progressivement développée. En France, le nombre d’interventions n’a cessé d’augmenter depuis le début des années 90 pour atteindre un maximum de 17 000 patients opérés en 2002 puis s’est stabilisé aux alentours de 10000 interventions annuelles depuis 2003 [1].
