Par opposition à la cachexie ou à l’obésité, il n’existe pas de moyen simple et fiable d’évaluer l’état nutritionnel. Cette évaluation se fait grossièrement, à la vue du patient et à l’anamnèse (ex.: perte de poids supérieure à 10 % en 6 mois).
