Abstrait
La BPCO est une maladie pulmonaire caractérisée par une obstruction bronchique partiellement ou non incomplètement réversible. Elle est secondaire à une réponse inflammatoire pulmonaire et systémique anormale liée à l’inhalation de particules irritantes et de gaz contenues principalement dans la fumée du tabac. L’évolution est progressive au cours du temps associant une atteinte des petites bronches (bronchiolite oblitérante) et une destruction parenchymateuse (emphysème) responsables de dyspnée, de la limitation à l’effort puis de l’insuffisance respiratoire, et des grosses bronches qui peut être responsable d’une bronchite chronique. La bronchite chronique se définit par la présence d’une toux avec expectoration pendant au moins 3 mois durant 2 années consécutives.
