Abstrait
Durant ces vingt dernières années, l’amélioration d’une part de la prise en charge des sujets âgés et d’autres part des pathologies cardiovasculaires ont vu émerger une population de plus en plus âgée présentant des problématiques cardio-vasculaires. L’hypertension artérielle touche plus de 70 % des sujets après 80 ans et constitue donc un enjeu important de santé publique. L’intérêt du traitement de l’hypertension chez la personne très âgée était il y a encore quelques années controversé. Mais plusieurs études récentes ont contribuées à considérer l’hypertension artérielle du sujet très âgé comme un facteur de risque cardiovasculaire à part entière, notamment sur le plan neuro-vasculaire mais également en terme de mortalité. On sait également que les sujets âgés sont souvent les moins bien contrôlés sur le plan tensionnel avec des conséquences graves en termes de morbi/mortalité.
