Résumé
Le nombre de nouveaux cas dans le monde chaque année est estimé à 132 000 (1). En France, on comptait 9,5 nouveaux cas pour 100 000 habitants chez les femmes et 7,6 cas pour 100 000 chez l’homme en 2000, ce qui représentait 7 231 cas et 1 364 décès dont 47 % survenant avant 65 ans. L’incidence maximale est observée chez les Blancs en Australie: 40 nouveaux cas pour 100 000 par an. L’incidence du mélanome augmente rapidement dans tous le pays à population à peau blanche, avec un doublement du taux d’incidence environ tous les dix ans depuis les dernières décades (2). Le risque de développer un mélanome aux états-Unis, qui était de 1/1 500 en 1935 est estimé à 1/50 en 2010. Heureusement, la mortalité (autour de 1,5 pour 100 000 en France et 5/100 000 en Australie augmente moins que l’incidence, ce qui est probablement en partie liée à l’exérèse de lésions plus précoces (1).
