Abstrait

Le syndrome douloureux pelvien chez l’homme incluant les prostatites touche approximativement 10 % des hommes et est responsable d’une morbidité et d’un coût médical élevé. Moins de 10 % de ces patients souffrent d’une prostatite bactérienne aiguë ou chronique, pathologie qui est bien définie par des paramètres cliniques et microbiologiques et habituellement guérie par le traitement antibiotique. La prostatite aiguë est caractérisée par une infection systémique sévère et des troubles irritatifs urinaires; elle répond rapidement aux traitements antibiotiques. La prostatite bactérienne chronique peut être ou non associée à un syndrome douloureux pelvien et à des poussées de cystite aiguë. Un traitement antibiotique prolongé traite environ 80 % des patients.
