Abstract
The protuberance of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau plays an important role in the formation of the general circulation and thus affects the weather and climate not only over China but over Asia and even the Northern Hemisphere as a whole. Meteorologists have attached great impatance to the Plateau, and have especially focused upon the manner in which its surface heats the air. This latter concern has becomes one of the central issues for investigation. During the first QXPMEX from May to August, 1979, a group of scientific workers were sent to the inner part of the Plateau charged with making regular fixed-site field observations in an attempt to determine the surface heat sources. These worker detained a large quantity of data. They have provided a basis for examining surface radiation balance (net radiation) and heat balance together with seasonal variations.
