Abstract
As seen from the 100 hPa mean monthly charts, in summer the middle and lower latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere are occupied by an ultra-long wave system of wave number 2 with ridges located over two continents and troughs over two oceans. One of the ridges situated in South Asia develops a upper troposphere anticyclone, which is called the South Asia high, over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.
